A Viennese Classical period is the densest era in music history: it is striking that the output of just a few years or decades, produced in a single small region, could have exerted such a fundamental influence on the entire subsequent history of music. This is represented by the two concerts of the Orfeo Orchestra<\/strong>, whose soloist is Petra Somlai<\/strong> and whose conductor is Gy\u00f6rgy Vashegyi<\/strong>. Haydn, in the early 1780s, wrote his Symphonies Nos. 76 and 79<\/em> within the walls of Esterh\u00e1zy Palace, works that already represent his mature creative period: the experimental spirit of earlier decades is complemented by a balanced sense of form, rich thematic development, and a refined shaping of orchestral sound. While Haydn was working on the Symphony in E-flat major<\/em> at Eszterh\u00e1za in 1782, Mozart, having recently moved to Vienna, was composing piano concertos for his own performances.
