Haydn’s works sometimes ended up in the kitchen

Many of Haydn’s manuscripts were destroyed by fire — some fell victim to house fires, others to the stove. His house in Kismarton burned down twice, but according to rumor, some manuscripts met an even more unusual fate: the composer’s wife is said to have often used them as pastry liners or to grease baking trays.
