HAYDNEUM EARLY MUSIC CONCERTS – JULY–DECEMBER 2026

Haydneum Early Music Concerts – July–December 2026

From summer evening weekends at Eszterháza through the programmes of the internationally significant 4th Haydneum Eszterháza Festival to the autumn and winter concerts at the Liszt Academy, the season’s offerings include chamber music evenings, a concert performance of an opera, cantatas, and symphonic works alike. Compositions by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, and other leading composers of the period will once again be performed on period instruments by outstanding Hungarian and international specialists in historically informed performance.

Over four summer weekends, from 10 July to 1 August, the Haydneum Concerts at Eszterháza series will fill the stunning Apollo Hall of the Esterházy Palace in Fertőd with atmospheric concerts every Friday and Saturday evening. Alongside programmes of exceptional variety, distinguished representatives of Hungarian early music life will appear, including Capella Savaria, Ensemble Variabile, and the Orfeo Orchestra conducted by György Vashegyi. Audiences will also have the opportunity to admire solo performances by Róza Bene, Andrea Bertalan, Márton Borsányi, László Gerhát, Dániel Pálkövi, Rita Papp, and Petra Somlai.

Between 28 August and 5 September, the Haydneum Eszterháza Festival will take place for the fourth time at the historic Eszterháza Palace. It has now become a tradition for the opening evening to feature a concert performance of one of Haydn’s operas — this year, the 1782 Orlando paladino, with Cyrille Dubois in the title role. Chamber music will be represented by Petra Somlai’s Schubert recital and a Haydn evening by the Gringolts Quartet, while Ádám Bősze will once again lead a thematic music-historical tour. The closing concert, devoted to music by Haydn and his contemporaries, will be conducted by the world-renowned Swiss bass Stephan MacLeod, with fortepianist Olga Pashchenko appearing as soloist.

In autumn and winter, Haydneum’s concerts continue at the Liszt Academy of Music. In October, songs and piano works by Chopin will take centre stage in the chamber concert of Aldona Bartnik and Naruhiko Kawaguchi. In the spirit of Advent anticipation, Bach cantatas will be performed by the Purcell Choir and Orfeo Orchestra conducted by György Vashegyi, joined by outstanding Hungarian soloists and internationally acclaimed guest artists such as Ella Marshall Smith and Christian Immler. The year will conclude with a concert by Ensemble Variabile featuring chamber works by Mendelssohn, Kalkbrenner, and Brahms.

A 20% advance booking discount is available on concert tickets until 17 June.
